Herman Friedrich

Herman Carl Friedrich, late of Oungre, Saskatchewan, was born to Raymond and Mabel Friedrich (Stabenow) on November 6, 1962. He passed away on August 4, 2026 at the age of 63 at Weyburn General Hospital.

Herman spent most of his life on the family farm. His dad passed away when Herman was only 9 years old which left his mom on her own to raise three boys. As with all small farms, there were struggles to keep the farm going, however, the farm celebrated as a 100-year family farm in 2007.

Herman attended school at Lyndale School in Oungre SK until he left to help with the farm. In 1992, He met Lori Wyborn in Dauphin, Manitoba. They were married in 1994 and Diane joined them the same year. Diane added two more joys to Herman’s life, Robert who loved helping Papa by handing him tools, and Paisley who enjoyed blowing bubbles with him. They made their first home in Estevan where Herman worked for Eugene Erickson who became like Herman’s second dad.

Herman was always a good natured fellow and was willing to help in any capacity needed. He was not one to shy away from hard work. He was always tinkering on something and with his ability to think outside of the box, he would bring home projects that others had deemed as a lost cause. It would be fixed and ready for use in short order.

Herman’s mom passed away in 2011 at which time Herman and Lori moved back to the farm. Although the Friedrich boys were no longer farming, through Herman’s determination and ability to pick up jobs as a farm labourer or other small jobs, he still lived on the home place until the end.

His most prized piece of farm equipment was his John Deere lawn mower. It became his mission in life that no grass in the two yards would be left standing. Just a few months ago, Herman had major surgery and was still in the hospital, but his biggest worry was getting home to cut the grass. It looked perfect even on the day he died.

His last few months were a struggle with cancer and at times the pain was intense. Although it was a shock to his family, they knew that Herman’s battle with cancer was going to be a long road. It brings us some comfort knowing that he avoided months in the hospital hooked up to machines.

Herman was predeceased by his parents, Raymond in 1972 and Mabel in 2011. He leaves to mourn his wife, Lori; daughter, Diane and her children Robert and Paisley; brother, Walter and his wife, Angie (Clauson), their children Adam Friedrich, Ashley Meyer and their families; brother, Oscar and his children, James Friedrich, Jesse Friedrich, Kyrstle Friedrich and their families; his cats, Butterball, Birdie, Squawky (aka Lard Butt), Chirpy and Angel will also deeply miss his love and attention.

A private family burial will be held at a later date at Slager Cemetery, Bromhead, Saskatchewan.
