

Ida was born in Lampman Union Hospital. She grew up on the farm near the village of Benson, SK along with her 5 sisters and 3 brothers. She attended high school at St. Joseph’s Academy in Forget, SK then later graduated as a Registered Nurse at Regina Grey Nun’s Hospital in 1960.
Her nursing career extended across Canada and Northern Canada. From 1960 to 1965, Ida was a staff nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Estevan, SK and Fort St. John, BC in the maternity, surgical, pediatrics and medical units. From 1965 to 1966, she was a nurse in all departments in a clinic in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island. In 1967, she worked in the surgical ward at the Weyburn Union Hospital. Then from 1967 to 1969, she worked at the Victoria General Hospital in Halifax NS in the ICU and neurological wards. In 1969 she also worked at the Regina Grey Nun’s Hospital as an ICU nurse and staff nurse. From 1969 to 1971 she worked in Coral Habour, NWT as a Public Health Nurse with Health and Welfare Canada. From 1971-1972 she was a nurse at Inuvik Public Health, Inuvik, NWT as a public health nurse. From 1972-1974 she attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton for her Degree in Nursing—BSN, Edmonton. From 1974-1978 she was a staff nurse at the Whitehorse Health Centre, in Whitehorse, Yukon and from 1978-1979 Ida was the Regional Nursing officer at the Whitehorse Health Centre. From 1979-2002 she was the Community Health Nurse, Pre-natal Instructor and School Nurse. This was a great joy and love in her nursing career, which lasted from 1960 to 2002 (42 ½ years) and 28 years of which were in Whitehorse, Yukon.
Ida was predeceased by her parents, Paul & Antoinette Carriere; brothers, Edwin & Ron Carriere; brothers in law, Jim Prosser, Henry Reich, Al Hagel & baby, Maurice Duriez; in laws, Maurice & Olive Duriez and sister in law, Ellie Duriez.
Ida is lovingly survived by her husband, Donald Duriez of Weyburn, SK (of which they were to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 25, 2023); brother, Jim (Elaine) Carriere; sisters, Dolores Prosser, Kay (Charlie) Gessner, Phyllis (Bill) Lewis, Jean Reich & Dianne Hagel; sisters in law, Myrtle Carriere & Janette Campbell; brothers in law, George Duriez, Ray (Pat) Duriez, Louis (Gale) Duriez, Clem (Nicole) Duriez, Lionel (Dixie) Duriez, Aimie (Esther) Duriez & Dan (Donna) Duriez as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Prayers were said on Tuesday, July 4, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, Saskatchewan with Father Valentine Amobi celebrating. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Lunch followed at McKenna Hall.
