Ida attended school in Khedive, Sk., loved to play ball and went out working as a housekeeper and caregiver at the age of 16. She married Herman Gurskey Nov 26,1940 and they settled into farm life until 1974 when they retired to Ogema. She worked hard as all farm women do, always had a big garden and canning to do, raised chickens, sewed most of our clothes, picked rocks alongside Dad, took meals to the field and hauled grain. (An interesting thing about that is that she could catch the grain “on the fly” and one time when her son in law Lloyd was helping she was amazed that he had never done that!). The move to Ogema still meant a large garden and her famous raspberry bushes that she supplied everyone in the family with berries and jam. She belonged to TOPS for many years and enjoyed going to the conventions with the other members. Mom and Dad belonged to the Senior Center, bowled in a few leagues, took some bus trips, went to Hawaii and she went to Expo in 1986. There was never a missed Christmas with whatever family could attend and most Easter and Thanksgiving family meals. She finally surrendered her driver license when she was about 95 and moved to the Pangman Deep South Care Home in the fall 2019. She so wanted to reach her 100th birthday and was able to celebrate with almost all the family in attendance. She will be missed by all her family, extended family and friend Edna Morrison who also resided at the Care Home.
The family would like to thank the Deep South Personal Care Home caregivers and the Home Care nurse Janelle for the excellent care Mom received while living there.
A Celebration of Ida's Life took place on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at 1:30 PM at the Khedive Hall, Khedive, Saskatchewan. Interment followed in Amulet Cemetery, Amulet, Saskatchewan.
