Nellie Katherine Skiba

Skiba, Nellie Katherine (nee Bonk) born June 15, 1926, passed away peacefully at the Fillmore Health Centre on Thursday, October 8, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Nellie was born at Candiac, Saskatchewan and grew up there. She moved to Fillmore, Saskatchewan to work at the hotel. It was here that Nellie met Simon, and later were married and moved on to the Skiba family farm at Osage, Saskatchewan. They lived there for many years before retiring to Weyburn. They bought a home in Weyburn and lived there for 20 years. Nellie loved the farm and enjoyed her big gardens. When our “Studda Bubba” worked outside she always wore her “babuschka” (kerchief.) Nellie especially loved to cook for her family and anyone that would show up at mealtime. She was noted for her fried chicken at Sunday suppers. She also loved to mend and sew and made many blankets for the grandchildren out of used clothing. With the health of both Nellie and Simon failing, they decided to sell their home and move into Bison Manor. They lived there for a few years. Simon passed away after 59 years of marriage and Nellie moved into the Fillmore Health Centre. Many thanks to the staff for the exceptional health care she received. Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Simon Skiba; infant son, Simon Skiba; parents, Andrew and Katherine Bonk; grandson, Eric Lanktree; siblings, Charlie, Louis, Andrew, Jack, Mike and Mary and in-laws. Nellie will be lovingly remembered by her son, Allan (Debbie) Skiba and their family Melissa (Barent) and children: Rhyan and Emerson; Michael; Amanda (Matthew) and daughter Lacey; and Tristan; son, Paul Skiba and his family, Clayton (Heather) and children: Karson and Matthew; Dan (Valerie) and children: Hanna and Brooke; son, Frank (Cheryl) Skiba and their family, Kaitlyn (Robert) and their child: Bodhi; Oriana, Addisyn and Janae; daughter, Mary Anne (Dale) Paslawski and their family, Julie-Anne (Tyson) and children: Dominick and Cooper; Vanessa and Levi; sisters, Sophie, Francis, Victoria and brother, Steve (Stevie) as well as nieces, nephews and friends. Prayers were said on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Tuesday, October 13, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church. Father Gerry Bauche presided at both services. Interment took place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. Pallbearers were Clayton, Skiba, Dan Skiba, Michael Skiba, Tristan Skiba, Levi Paslawski and Robert Renner. Donations in memory of Nellie may be made to the Fillmore Health Centre at Box 246, Fillmore, Saskatchewan, S0G 1N0.
