SZMIGIELSKI, Paulina (Pauline) (nee, Oshust) Of Radville, SK and formerly of Lake Alma, SK passed away on July 30, 2018 at the age of 96 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Stanley; and infant son in Poland; brother, Walter Oshust; sister-in-law, Stella Oshust; and her parents, August and Aniela Oshust. Pauline leaves to mourn her two sons, Walter (Brenda) Szmigielski of Regina, SK and John (Denise Feusi) Szmigielski of Lake Alma, SK; four daughters, Sophie (Wolfgang) Gennutt of Buena Vista, SK; Mary (Jack) Giesinger of Regina, SK; Joan (John) Mansuy of Pilot Butte, SK and Stella (Roger) L'Arrivee of Regina, SK; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Pauline was born in Plebanowka, Poland on July 28, 1922. During the war years, on September 15, 1942, she married Stanley Szmigielski who was serving in the Polish Army. Married life did not start on a happy note for them as their first child died in infancy. After the war, Pauline and Stanley continued living in Poland, where they had five more children. Their chances of supporting a family and sustaining an adequate life were grim and therefore in July of 1958, they left Poland in an attempt to establish a better life for their family. They came to Canada with the help of her parents who had immigrated to Canada some years previous. They settled on a farm east of Lake Alma, SK. Here their sixth child was born. They had to endure many hardships, the hardest being language. No one spoke or understood a single word of English. They mix farmed until 1995 when they retired to Radville due to Stanley's health. After Stanley passed away, Pauline continued to live in her house until her health forced her to enter the Radville Marian Home, in November of 2011. Here she remained until her passing. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 at Fletcher's Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, Saskatchewan. The Funeral Mass will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Holy Family Parish in Radville with Father Gerry Bauche, celebrating. Interment follows in St. Mary's Cemetery, Tribune, Saskatchewan.
