Vern was born at Simpson, Saskatchewan on the family farm. He attended school at Simpson and as a young man worked various jobs travelling around Saskatchewan, Alberta and British Columbia, thrashing for farmers, hauling gravel, logs and driving heavy equipment to name a few. Vern’s first marriage was to Evelyn and from that union they raised 5 beautiful children.
We all know that life takes you in different directions and that led him to moving to Weyburn and marrying Helen. They spent many a days building their relationship and relationships with their cherished friends in the community. He was a true jack of all trades and was able to fix or build anything that he needed. He spent many hours scouring the fields for a new project vehicle to work on and restore to its’ original glory. His ability to hunt down or repair a part that he needed was a true testament to his incredible talents.
His love of music led to many hours of enjoyment for all. From listening to a great old polka party, playing a jig on his violin and dancing to everything from two-step to square dancing.
He also enjoyed many camping trips around Sk and seemed to find the lakes where the fish were always biting.
The simple things in life leave the best memories. A coffee visit, sharing a meal with friends, a trip to the auction or a Sunday drive. He cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. So for those of us who knew Vern it was never “goodbye”, it was always “we’ll talk later”.
