Amey was born in Agular, Colorado to Fred and Frances Cardenas. She was raised to the age of 12 by her grandparents in Valdez, Colorado. When her grandmother passed away, she went to live with her parents and the rest of the family in Englewood, Colorado.
In time she met Dan Perego and they were married. They had a daughter, Denise. Tragedy struck when Denise was five years old when her father was accidentally killed. Amey was grandmother to Denise’s children Daniel, Jackie, and Armondo.
Years later, she met Mike. She usually called him Michael but she would call him Mike when she became annoyed with him. They met one evening across the street from Montgomery Wards where they both worked. The fell in love and were married. Between Mike and Amey she was the adventurous one, always loving to have fun. She loved shopping and when they went grocery shopping, she would wear Mike out.
They were blessed when their son Raymond was born but the years passed all too quickly.
Raymond was married to Bonnie Matlack and all were blessed when Aubrey and Bella were born. Amey took such great joy in being the girls’ babysitter for the working parents. We remember her holding a twin in each arm and feeding them. When the twins got a bit older, they and Amey enjoyed cooking, drawing, working puzzles and other activities. Amey took great pleasure and joy from Ray, Bonnie, and her precious twin granddaughters simply known as the “girls.”
