Carol Dechant Young

Carol Ann Young passed away peacefully at Morning Star Assisted Living in Lakewood, Colorado, on December 20, 2025 at the age of 90, after a fall that resulted in a broken hip, which sadly she was not able to recover from.

She was born Carol Ann Dechant in Hays, Kansas on November 10, 1935, to Frank Dechant and Pauline Wolf. She was the youngest of four daughters. While still an infant, the family moved to Denver, Colorado, where Carol grew up and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1953. Following her tenure at Loretto Heights College, Carol met Harold “Hal” Young and the two married in December of 1957. The union produced two fine sons, Dr. Harold “Hap” Dechant Young and Douglas Godfrey Young.

Carol was an adored daughter, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. Anyone that came in contact with her immediately were taken with her gregarious, loving, and generous personality. She was a voracious reader, loved big band music, dancing, playing tennis with friends (until age 80), volunteering with the Colorado Symphony, and traveling the world. Most of all Carol loved her family. She showed up to every family event and made everyone happy with her infectious laugh. Carol attended family holiday events, weddings, graduations, and even her grandkids, nieces and nephews sporting events. She led a full and rich life that left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be missed, but will remain a loving presence in our hearts forever.

Survivors include her son Hap and wife Rosario; her son Douglas and wife Penelope; three adoring grandchildren: Tyler, Kyla, and Secia. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Hal Young, parents Pauline and Frank, sisters Rita, Kay, and Adeline, as well as nephew Stephen and niece Barbara.

A visitation will be held at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary, located at 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, on January 13, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1985 Miller St, Lakewood, CO 80215, on January 14, 2026, at 10:30 am followed by Funeral Mass from at 11:00 am. Carol will be laid to rest at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary at 1:00 pm.

A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at 2:30 pm (doors open at 2:00) at The Club at Rolling Hills, 15707 W. 26th Avenue, Golden, CO.
