Chester “Chet” Benson Schellenger was born on April 16, 1920 in Ashtabula, Ohio to Edward and Emily Schellenger. Chet married Ila Dunn on June 14, 1941. He was drafted into military service in January 1942, and soon was stationed at Lowery AFB in Denver. Following his military service, Chet and Ila remained in Denver, making it their home where they raised three children. Chet was a skilled cabinet maker and owned his own company, Denver Fixture, for 25 years, retiring in 1981. Chet was an avid reader who later had to endure macular degeneration and his eventual loss of sight. But he handled it with grace. An avid fisherman, Chet loved to fish and even enjoyed tying his own flies to use while fishing.
Throughout his life, Chet was a dedicated follower of Jesus and served the Lord in many church leadership positions, always modeling biblical manhood and integrity for his family, his church and his community. Chet is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ila, three children Charline (Jim), Gary, Gloria (Dan), all from Denver, 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
