Chris had a dream to live on a ranch, and to operate a blacksmith’s shop. He began the pursuit of his dream by attending El Paso (Pikes Peak) Community College and earned a Master’s Certificate in Farrier Science (horseshoer), and then continued to develop his skills as an artist blacksmith.
Chris often spoke of Tom Noel, his high school history teacher (and well-known historian) who lit a fire in him to pursue Colorado history, jeep trails, and backcountry exploration. He was an adventurer, as a younger man he traveled the mountains of Colorado, in search of jeep trails, fishing, and historical moments. As his lack of mobility affected his travels, he used the internet to continue his explorations; also, he accomplished a significant amount of work tracing our family history through the ages.
He had a love of the Littleton Historical Museum, steam trains, genealogy, ghost towns, paranormal activity, and Colorado history, which took him to his beloved Como, Corona Pass, Fraser, Gunnison National Forest, and the Crystal Mill in Marble.
Chris had a dry sense of humor and a quick wit which served him well over the years, although he was known as being a hermit, he loved social interaction with others, and especially loved to hear their sorted tales.
He gave back to the community by participating in “Big Brothers” and “Arapahoe Friends” for several years, mentoring at least two young men.
His love of nature started in his own backyard by converting it from a conventional suburban lawn to a natural wildlife sanctuary. Following a strict protocol, he planted native flowers, and grasses to have it become certified as a “Backyard Wildlife Habitat” by the National Wildlife Federation. A wildlife sanctuary was born, and all species of birds, ducks, fox, racoons, and other wildlife sought out his backyard in a sea of urban sprawl.
Chris worked for Cardinal Health for nearly 38 years earning the Chairman’s Award and several commendations.
Chris will be privately interred at an undisclosed time.
Chris was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. He is survived by two siblings, two nieces and a nephew, also by grandnieces and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers please donate to either the National Wildlife Federation (www.nwf.org), or your favorite charity. Chris would want you to get outside, explore, and pursue your dreams!
