Don George Schmidt was born March 15, 1926, in Clay Center, Kansas, the son of August Henry Schmidt and Ada (Deetjen) Schmidt. He attended Fairview Country School and Clay County Community High School and was a faithful member of Ebenezer Church. He spent his childhood and the early years of his married life on the family farm.
He married R.A. Louise Gerriets on April 9, 1950. In 1956 they moved to Denver, Colorado, where he was employed at the Government Printing Office situated at the Denver Federal Center. They made their home in Edgewater and, after his retirement in Arvada, Colorado. For many years he has been an active member of the Wheat Ridge Lutheran Church.
Don loved the outdoors and they often spent time in their shared hobby of rock collecting and lapidary work. He enjoyed barbershop style harmony and was a member of the local chapter, and also sang in the choir of the Wheat Ridge Lutheran Church where he was an active member for many years, and took part in a gospel quartet called "The Witnesses".
He is survived by his wife of 65 years.
