Emilie Gulyas, 94, of Denver, went to her eternal home on November 27, 2019. She was born in Hungary, Europe and immigrated to Colorado in 1960 with her husband, Joseph, and three children, Zoltan, Marta and Erika; daughter Lisza was born in Denver. The family became citizens in May 1966. Emilie was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 1998. She is survived by her children Zoltan (Brenda), Marta (Mark Haynes), Erika (Paul Beale), and Lisza; grandchildren Megan Husmann, Brandon Ahrens, Elliott Niedens and Nathan Gulyas; and great grandsons Jonathan and Jadon Ahrens.
The birth and death of this remarkable woman was not as relevant as the challenging life she led. Born in 1925, Emilie was the first born of 11 children. Her fondest memories were growing up near Belgrade, Yugoslavia between the age of 5 to 15 with her aunt and grandmother where she was adored and loved going to school and performing in dancing recitals. At the age of 15, she returned to Oroshaza, Hungary, to live with her parents and was surrounded with love by her 10 siblings. After finishing high school, she went to a trade school in Budapest to become a seamstress. Here she met and married Joseph and had two children, Zoltan and Marta. The family escaped Hungary in 1956 during the Hungarian/Russian Revolution and fled to Vienna, Austria where daughter Erika was born. In 1960, under sponsorship by a Christian church, the family settled in Denver, Colorado where daughter Lisza was born. Emilie and her husband Joseph worked hard and took pride in raising their family. Over the years, both were ultimately met with many health challenges.
Emilie was a homemaker, an amazing cook, and was well known by many for her tireless work ethic as a professional seamstress running her own business from home for 40 years and later working outside the home at Auers, a high end clothing store in Cherry Creek, as a fitter and performing skilled alterations for five years.
Emilie loved her church, singing and spending time with her family. Her generous heart, gentle spirit and devotion to family will be forever missed and always remembered by her family.
A private family celebration of life ceremony and burial will be held on Thursday, December 5, at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary.

SHE’S THE SUN
She’s in the sun, the wind, the rain,
She’s in the air you breathe.
You’ll see her in the clouds above,
Hear her whisper, hear her sing out loud.
She’s had a life larger than most,
A life of faith, of pain, of fear, yet
Proudly she sings a song of hope and cheer.
She quietly showed us how to be strong,
How to persevere yet never brag,
How to lead without being loud,
How to overcome challenges with few words.
Listen quietly and you will hear her laugh,
Hear her sing,
Hear her words of love.
You will feel her when the sun is on your shoulders.
