Gerald or Jerry as he was known, was loved by many and cherished by his loving wife Carolyn, his son Paul, daughter Amy, daughter and son-in-law Vera and Damon and his grandchildren Miranda, Alex & Alissa-wife, and Anthony. In December 2023, he helped welcome his first great-grandson into the family, Bryer!
He will be remembered as one of the kindest, gentlest, friendliest men that his friends and acquaintances knew. He was willing to talk to anyone and helped countless people throughout his life. His life was dedicated to serving others of all nationalities, races, religions and ages.
He was in the Air National Guard. Then he began his career after going to college for teaching, in 1964 at Evans School in Denver. He decided that he wanted to learn how to teach deaf children or hearing impaired children so he went to Clarke School for the Deaf in Northampton, Massachusetts. He later obtained his Masters Degree from Colorado State College. He then went on to teach hard of hearing children at Carson Elementary School in Denver. After this he became an itinerant teacher, who goes to different schools to help teach hard of hearing children. He ended up teaching for 32 years for Denver Public Schools and touched many children’s lives and their families.
For his leisure time he was not into sports and didn’t have a lot of hobbies other than reading, but he was always willing to help others in need. He did this in various ways including, sponsoring a wonderful family from Laos, working at the local food bank in Arvada for decades, volunteering at the Listing Post, donating to many organizations, sponsoring a Little Brother, serving in many capacities at his church, singing in various choirs, helping an older age man around the house, and most of all supporting and raising his two children.
He will be sadly missed by everyone he knew, and service to others locally and throughout the world will be greatly impacted by the loss of this dedicated servant of God.
The viewing, funeral and time to meet with Jerry’s family and friends will be held at Olinger, Funeral, Cremation and Cemetery - Crown Hill, Wheat Ridge, Colorado on March 6, 2025 from 10:00am to 2:30pm with a small reception.
