Gwen Joy Looper passed away peacefully the morning of December 16, 2025. She was born September 10, 1934 (91 year!) in Fargo, North Dakota and given the name Gwendolyn Joy Heinlein. Her mother, Dorthy Cleo Heinlein (deceased 1998 as Heaps), was a free spirit, and moved them often all around the western U.S. At the age of 16, while attending Venice High School, a young man named Paul Looper Jr. (deceased 2011) traveled halfway across the country to ask Gwen's hand in marriage. She said yes and he brought her home to Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Just over a year later, they had a baby girl named Gail Lynn Looper (deceased 2021 as Higginson). Colorado was always home from then on but Gwen would have many many adventures around the country with her little family. Though working a few jobs off and on, she was well supported by her husband throughout her life, allowing her to enjoy hobbies such as antiques, collecting angel pendants, greeting cards, and chatting. There are too many family, neighbors, and friends ahead of her in heaven to count. Here on earth, she will be missed by grandson Alex Higginson, son-in-law Mike Higginson, grandchildren Eric/Sheila Higginson, Brenda/Don Dumper, 7 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Bob/Susan Looper, nephews Mick/Peggie Looper, Dan/Carol Looper, cousin Dot, Ellie, James and so many others she brought joy to.
Services are to be held January 2, 2026 at Olinger Crown Hill, Mortuary Pavilion of Reflection, 7777 W. 29th Ave. Wheat Ridge, CO 1:00 PM. There will be a livestream available for those unable to attend. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Heart Association or any other such worthy cause.
