

Harold D. Kunz was born to Albert W. and Louise C. Kunz on December 17, 1924 in St. John, Kansas and died on August 29, 2018 in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Harold, along with his parents and brothers, moved to Colorado in 1939. He was fond of saying that when they crossed the state-line they knew they were in God’s country and never looked back. He graduated from Wheat Ridge High School in 1942 immediately joining the Navy where he served as a Radioman 2nd class serving in the South Pacific for 17 months and 14 days. He used the GI Bill to become a Journeyman Carpenter.
On June 14, 1945 he married Marilyn Jean Prewitt, his high school sweetheart. They raised four children before her death in 1968. On May 10, 1971 he married Dixie Hutchison Frew who he had also known in high school. They enjoyed life together, cruising the seven seas among many other pastimes, until her death in 2014.
Harold went into business with his two brothers in 1950. These businesses grew from a catering company, to a contracting company building residential homes, to a construction Company building Commercial Buildings.
Harold served as an Elder in the Wheatridge Heights Church of Christ and the Lakewood Community Church, teaching bible study for over 25 years. He was actively involved in the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) serving on the national board of directors for 9 years and as the chair of many committees and task forces both at the national and local level. He coached little league football and baseball teams and never missed an athletic event in which his children were playing.
Harold was preceded in death by his mother and father, his wife Marilyn, his wife Dixie, his brothers Leroy Kunz and Eldon Kunz, his granddaughter Shawnee Kunz Sirkka and his great grandson Tivis Coe Kunz. He is survived by his daughter, Dianna Lynn Kunz, his sons Glenn Gary (GiGi) Kunz, Kirby Kent (Patty) Kunz, Dean Denton (Stephanie) Kunz, his stepsons Tom (LaNae) Frew, Dana (Michele) Frew, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday. September 5, 2018 at the Rolling Hills Country Club located at 15707 W. 26th Avenue, Golden, CO 80401 between 12:00 to 3:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his name to the Volunteers of America, 2660 Larimer Street, Denver, CO 80205.
