Helen, an only child, was born in Denver on June 23, 1932 to Earl and Minta Lawhead. She attended school in Denver and graduated from Manual high school. She did not attend college, but fulfilled her dream of being a wife when she married her beloved Jimmy on November 9, 1952. They moved into a lovely little house in Denver and lived there for 64 years of marriage.
After Jimmy passed, Helen continued to live in that same little house for the rest of her life. Helen’s life work was caring for her family and home, but enjoyed working as a crossing guard and “lunch lady” at Johnson Elementary School.
Survivors include her daughter, Debbie Casto and her husband, Dennis; her son Doug Fisher and his wife Paty; seven grandchildren, Daniel, Derrick and his wife, Jenna, Dillon, Justine and her husband, Alex, Dorrian and her husband Mike, Dannah and her husband Colin, and Becki; four great-grandchildren, Leigh, Talon, Minta and Rowan Lou. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy.
A visitation will be held at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary in the Serenity Pointe Chapel, on May 14, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. The Funeral Service will start at 12:00 pm.
A Committal Service will take place at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236, at 2:00 pm where she will be laid to rest with her late husband, James.
