About the age of 14, they relocated to Colorado and Helen's mother and father
divorced soon after. Her mother Eva met and married Alfredo Sandoval, who continued to raise Helen, Alex, and David in addition to their own children, George, Junior and Phyllis.
Helen met Theodore Martinez and were married shortly after. They had 8 children (Lorraine, Johnny, Henrietta, Rita, Theodore, James, Regina and Valerie. Johnny and Henrietta did not survive long after birth.
Helen is now reunited with her husband and children.
Helen loved to cook and was a lunch lady at the Denver Public Schools for most of her career. She also loved to do crafts and one of her favorite crafts was to make blankets. She made and gifted blankets to everyone she loved.
She and her husband were married for over 50 years and unfortunately Ted passed away in 2007. After which, Helen lived in their house alone for a few years until we started seeing signs of dementia. Her daughter Regina and husband Nick took her into their home to love and care for her.
In 2017, Helen moved in with her daughter Rita and husband Marty.
Rita, Ted & Gina and their spouses took an active role in taking care of their mother daily with the help of several of Helen's granddaughters.
Helen had a huge heart, and also, took care of the elderly and volunteered at St. Anthony's church.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.CrownHillFuneral.com for the Martinez family.
