John Roger Wilson, 84, passed away peacefully at Covenant Living of Colorado Retirement Community, Westminster, Colorado, on Feb 23rd, 2020. While attending the University of Colorado he met the love of his life, Lynne Thorley, and they were married on Nov 14th, 1959; Roger and Lynne celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2019. Roger graduated from the University of Colorado in 1958 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, and shortly thereafter joined the Coors Brewing Co. where he worked for the next 34 years, retiring as the Director of Packaging Quality Control.
Roger is preceded in death by his father and mother, Henry M. and Eleanor L. Wilson; and by his brother, Edwin R. Wilson. He is survived by his loving family: wife, Lynne L. Wilson (nee Thorley), 80; sons, Brian, 59; and Donald, 49; daughter, Karen, 54; and grand-children: Tony, 25, David, 22, Matthew, 20, Nathan, 20, Saige, 16, Ian, 13, and Emily, 11.
Roger was the epitome of a family man, a loving husband and devoted father. He enjoyed sharing his passion for engineering, fishing, hunting, bicycling, and motorcycle-riding with his wife and children, but also made it a priority to regularly impart important “life lessons” and instruction on how to be a person of Godly character. He was known by all as a man of his word, of perpetual energy and a quick wit, and enduring compassion for those less fortunate than he was.
Roger was a man of deep Christian faith, illustrated throughout his life by his commitment to his family, and to providing an example of how to live according to traditional/Biblical values. After a sixteen-year battle with Parkinson’s disease, he has emerged the victor and is now at rest in the arms of his Savior. His memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Mar 7th, at Applewood Community Church, 12930 W. 32nd Ave, Golden, CO, 80401.
