Jim, the youngest of ten children, was born in 1934 to Dora Petrie and L. Robert Marshall, and was raised in Cope, Colorado during his early years. He spent his junior high and beginning high school years in Denver living with his sister, Micki Blanton, and her family. At age 16, he moved to Otis, Colorado to live with his brother, Al Marshall, and his family. While attending high school, he was coached by Al, and was an outstanding football and basketball player. There he met Louise Langley.
After high school at age 18, Jim joined the US Navy. A few months after joining the Navy, he returned home, and married Louise. They were married for 14 years and had two children Katherine (Kerry) and Michael (Kelly). He served in the Navy on the USS BullWheel throughout the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1956. Jim and Louise were divorced in 1968.
Jim married Lenora Thompson in 1969. Lenora "Norie" had three boys. Lance, Stan (Carol) and Ron (Mary). They were married 28 years. Norie passed away in 1997.
Jim was a real estate agent, and in later years owned Lakewood Lanes bowling alley. Jim and Norie ran the bowling alley for many years until retiring in 1995.
Jim was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had nine grandchildren: Ryan Sandusky (Emily), Kyle Sandusky (Cindy), Nikki Malone (Tom), Cheston Repola (Stefani), Shaye Marshall, Casey Thompson, Mathea Thompson, Jacob Thompson, and John Thompson. He was also blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Sara, Mason, Gryffin, Rownin, Delaney, Leah, Kerri, and Isaiah. His favorite way to pass time was watching his grandchildren play baseball, soccer, softball, and volleyball, or any other sport they may be participating in. He was an avid sports fan, and loved bowling with his friends. He raised rabbits and doves, and enjoyed gardening.
Memorial service will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery on Saturday, September 10, at 2:30pm at the gravesite. There will be a gathering of friends and family after.
Gifts in memory of Jim may be made to Lutheran Hospice at SupportLutheran.org or to the University of Colorado Women’s Soccer Program at Donation Entry (evenue.net).
