Jay Robert Selfridge, age 60, of Aurora, Colorado passed away on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Although born developmentally disabled and blind, Jay lived a full and rewarding life filled with purpose, friendship, and joy. He had a natural talent and ear for music, which brought happiness to those around him. Jay loved many kinds of music–he played the electric drums while in Oklahoma, carried his harmonica everywhere, and was often the first to start playing “Happy Birthday” at celebrations. He also played the guitar and loved to dance.
Jay found great joy outdoors, and Colorado was the perfect place for him to enjoy the beauty of mountains, streams, and lakes. Over the years, he traveled to many places, including California, Utah, Texas, and even Morocco, where he had the unforgettable experience of riding camels.
He worked for many years at Steamers Coffee Shop in Arvada, where he helped with food preparation and dishwashing. Jay was very proud of his job and valued going to work each day, he especially loved spending the money he earned. He loved getting new shoes.
Because of his disability, Jay had the blessing of two families: his natural family and a second family through his host home provider, where he lived for over 25 years. He is survived by his mother, Karen; his two sisters, Sherri Emmons and Cynde Vaughn; his “second mom” Angela; and his host home family: dad KC and siblings DJ and Darlena.
Jay has now gone home to be with God and Jesus in heaven.
