My condolences. Dr. Odom performed my three scoliosis surgeries in 1978, 1980 (after a fusion crack from swimming competitively too early post '78 surgery), and a '82 surgery to remove my 2 Harrington rods because they were painful due to my thin frame.  I was a very active teen and after the removal had extended mobility with the bone fusion in place.
My parents and I put complete faith in Dr. Odom.  He was a very accomplished surgeon as well as being so very kind, and compassionate.  He told me two things.  1. No horse back riding, and 2. You will have arthritis in your 60's in the fusion adjacent vertebrae. 
I'm now 62.  I don't ride horses, and my arthritis pain is astounding.  However, my previous decades were filled with sports and lots of wonderful outdoor activities.  I thought of him often.  My father (also 90) passed 3 months after Dr. Odom.  We shared fond memories of him in the months before.  
Thank you for helping so many young people with your skill as a surgeon and your delightful demeanor.  I always felt at ease during our visits to the clinic.  The chance that I googled  Dr Odom today, the day of his memorial, is quite a coincidence.  I didn't work today and could have attended, but I googled at 7 pm.  Such a shame, I would have like to have been there. 
Rest in Peace Dr. Odom.  You will always be remembered fondly.  Thank you.  Jetty Plooy, and my late parents, Martina and Marinus.

What a wonderful, graceful man....loved hearing his Tennessee accent again....he left you all plenty to remember him by....mostly of honor and love.     Rest Well Jack
