Linda Sturdevant, a beloved sister, aunt, music educator, and lifelong member of the Berkeley community, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2025, at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, Colorado. She was 77.
Born and raised in the Berkeley neighborhood of North Denver, Linda was the first daughter of Ed and Velma Gabel. She grew up side by side with her younger sister, Laurel (“Lori”) Collins, with whom she shared a lifelong and deeply loving bond. The two were inseparable as children and remained close companions throughout adulthood—connected not only by family, but by humor, memory, and unwavering sisterhood.
Linda had a profound love for music from an early age. After earning her degree in music education, she dedicated her life to teaching, first in Golden public schools and later at Shrine of St. Anne Catholic School. She touched countless young lives through her joyful teaching, her patience, and her ability to make music come alive.
For decades, Linda also directed the choir at Berkeley Community Church—now Berkeley United Church of Christ—where she had worshipped since birth. Her voice, leadership, and presence became a cherished part of the church’s fabric.
On April 28, 1979, Linda married the love of her life, Bill Sturdevant. Their marriage was full of laughter, shared books, music, and quiet joys. Together they faced heartbreak with grace after the stillbirth of their son, BJ (Billy Junior). Bill’s passing in 2013 was a loss Linda felt deeply, but she continued to carry his memory with tenderness.
Linda is survived by her devoted sister Lori Collins; her dear nieces Kelly Huyck, Allison and Cheyanne Shannon; nephew Eli Huyck; and step-nieces and nephew—Ronnie, Stephanie, and Debi Collins. She also leaves behind her loving sisters-in-law, Karleen and Marcia (Tom), and many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched with her humor, generosity, and warmth.
Linda loved good conversation, good company, and good food—whether it was a potluck dish at church or a shared family meal, she found joy and connection through flavors and fellowship.
A celebration of Linda’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on August 8, 2025, at Berkeley United Church of Christ located at 3701 W 50th Ave, Denver, CO 80221. This is where she spent her life worshipping, serving, and singing.
Love you to pieces!
