Pat passed away peacefully at Lutheran Collier Hospice on May 24, 2024 at the age of 90. He always had a smile, a great sense of humor and a story to tell. We love him so very much and we will miss him deeply.
Pat was born February 13, 1934 in Memphis, Tennessee. He was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Marjory Mahan, and his sister, Maralyn Mahan. After his father’s and sister’s early deaths, he and his mother moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School and Colorado College where he was a Kappa Sigma and earned a degree in Business Administration and Finance. During the summers he worked as a surveyor and played the drums in numerous bands which helped him pay for school, and became a 32nd Degree Mason. He worked at Martin Marietta as a Project Administrator (Manned Space Systems Division) and at the same time he attended law school at Denver University. He graduated with J.D. Law from Denver University in 1969. He joined Jefferson County as the County Attorney in 1971 and continued in that role until 1992 after which Pat maintained a private practice.
During his tenure at Jefferson County, Pat was the Founder of the Colorado County Attorneys Association. He established Construction Management Teams which managed the construction and activation of the Jefferson County Jail, Government Center, Human Services Building and Central Shops. Additionally, Pat was instrumental in the creation of the Jefferson County Open Space program.
In his spare time, Pat enjoyed the outdoors by rafting, fishing, bicycling, golfing, running, and gardening - especially growing pumpkins and blueberries (He never gave up!). He served as counsel for Jefferson County Republican Party.
Pat is survived by his wife, Jan; daughter, Shelly Evans and her husband, Kent; and his grandchildren, Haley and Liam; his cousin Jim and wife Chris Mahan. His funeral service will be June 7, 2024 at 10:00 am at Olinger Crown Hill Mortuary & Cemetery, 7777 W 29th Ave in Wheat Ridge, Colorado.
Thank you to all of his doctors. We are grateful to Sheila and Elaine at Visiting Angels; the St. Anthony’s Staff; and Sue, Carol, and Kelly at the Lutheran Collier Center who took very good care of Pat during his final days.
