Roger D. Hogoboom, Sr. of Arvada died March 14, 2024. He was born in Fargo, North Dakota to Nancy and Elmer Hogoboom on July 18, 1940, the first of five children. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John and his oldest son Roger Jr. He is survived by his wife of 61 years Mary, sons Todd (MaryJo), Troy (Jen), daughter-in-law Heather Hogoboom (Pat Horn); sisters Mary Eileene (Larry Claxton), Jackie (Marv Kramer) and Jill (Jim Leary); and grandchildren JoEllen (Tyler) Higgins, Hunter, Patricia, Hayden, Grayson and Brady; as well as six nephews & nieces.
Roger served in the U.S. Army for two years following high school graduation, and an additional four years in the Army Reserves. He worked for Armour Company, Union Pacific Railroad and was self-employed/the owner of Walt’s Ice Service in Denver for 30 years, retiring when he was 62. He was fondly known as the “ice man” in Denver, delivering thousands of bags and 300 pound blocks of ice around the city during that time.
Roger was a charter member, honorary life member, and seven-year trustee of the Arvada Elks #2278 and hardly ever missed a day going to the lodge. He also was a member of the Arvada American Legion Post #161, and loved fishing and watching his grandkids compete in sports.
