I have such happy memories of Ronnie growing up.  Even though I have not seen him for years I often thought of him, his parents and the wonderful Eckhardt family.  I remember when he was learning the accordian and every Sunday we all would go over and he would play for us. And I remember when he got his first scooter and how all us cousins were so jealous and impressed that he was so "grown up"!  My thoughts are prayers are with his entire family.

I remember all the times I used to go over to your house and it was just Grandpa and Jordan days. You'd wake me up at exactly 10am and we'd watch The Price is Right. Then we would play "Bloons" all day long and have a huge competition over it! Then for lunch you always gave me four pieces of salami and three pieces of cheese. I cherish those days. I too have many happy memories of Ronnie and his music at family get-togethers for Thanksgiving, weddings and family reunions.  He was truly a kind and loving family man.  To his family, I'm sorry I won't be able to express my condolences in person.

Daddy-Dad-Pops....You meant the world to me, there are not enough words to express how much love I have for you and pride I take in being your son.  Even though I feel you are close to my heart, I've missed you everyday since you've be gone.  Maybe that prepared me for all of this as hard as it has been.  I promise you-your legacy as a man, father, and musician is deeply instilled in me, and I will continue to you make you proud in all aspects. You touched thousands of people and made thousands of friends, not many on this earth can say that. So sorry to learn that Ronnie had passed away.  It seems like only yesterday that the Class of 1962 was leaving Westminster High School to begin our world travels.  My thoughts and prayers are with the family of Ronnie at this saddest of times.  God Bless and may your music brighten Heaven.

To The Ronnie Eckhart Family-

I was informed this evening by fellow friend and musician, Cynthia Babish, that Ronnie had passed away, I was very saddened to hear this news and my thoughts and prayers are with you all at this very difficult time.

I first met Ronnie through Earl Billingsley, my accordion teacher & band leader of the Denver Dutchmen, this was many, many years ago, it was either at the Denver DAV or the Old Shang where there were regular dances on the weekends, this was before I had my band. Ronnie was always friendly and gracious to everyone he spoke to and to everyone he met and he was always full of life and music.On many occasions Ronnie would invite other musicians up on stage to sit in and perform with him and his great band. He asked me to do this as well and it was a very exciting and wonderful thing for him to do for up and coming musicians.

I remember all the great dances Ronnie & his band played for at the DAV, The Shang, Kickers Club-Polka Lovers Club in Golden, IPC in Colo. Springs, all the dances up North and not to mention all the Polkafests and special events they performed at over the years. I had the great pleasure in having Ronnie and his band up to Boulder for the Polkafest we put on there at the Boulder Elks Lodge back in the early 2000's, they did a fantastic job and of course they were always a big hit with the crowd.

I have not seen or spoke to Ronnie since those times and I know he retired from performing in his band a few years ago and turned the band over to his son Randy who now carrys on his Father's legacy and great music. I feel personally sad I was not able to see Ronnie again. I can say this about Ronnie Eckhart he loved his family, friends, and music fans and he had a real zest for life. He always had fun, loved to laugh and he really loved to entertain on the accordion with his band, I will miss Ronnie and his music friendship. It is sad to see another one of our great Colorado Polka musicians gone, heres to you Ronnie, thanks for the many, many great memories, you will missed greatly, but never forgotten.
