

Sandra "Sandy" K. Mastin, after a brief illness, in the care of her children, passed away on November 4, 2024, at the age of 79, in Aurora, CO. Born on February 16, 1945, Sandy was known for her generous and motherly nature, her loyalty, and her adventurous spirit. Her devotion to her husband Pat Mastin of almost 55 years and her two children were the foundations of her life.
Sandy dedicated her career to education, working as an Educational Assistant with Aurora Public Schools. She was instrumental in establishing the Explorer Club at North Middle School, where she led memorable trips to various Colorado sites for eighth graders. Even after retirement, she continued to tutor and mentor students in reading no matter their level or age. Sandy kept a book log of the thousands of books she devoured with her favorite author being Louis Lamour. Her passion for teaching began in her early teens when she started teaching piano at her parents' music store. Sandy graduated from Englewood High School and broke barriers as one of the first women to march in the marching band of the school.
Sandy was a dedicated member of the Catholic Faith and had been a long-time member of the St. Therese Church. Her faith influenced her life and the lives of those around her especially her philosophy of being in the service of others. Additionally, she was a leader for many years dividing her time between both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, influencing many young lives through her commitment and activities.
She is survived by her children, Annette and Matthew Mastin; sister-in-law, Penelope "Penny" Mastin; niece and nephews, Naomi, Patrick, Andrew, Phillip, and Stefan Mastin; adopted nieces, Colleen, Shauna, and Mary McKinney; and her longtime friend, Tshaune Jones. Sandy also leaves behind a host of friends, scouts, and former students whose lives she forever impacted.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Errol "Patrick" Mastin; her parents, John R. and Gladys L. Cane; father and mother-n-law Stephan and Faye Mastin, brother-in-law, Michael Mastin; adopted brother and sister-n-law Gary and Gale McKinney, and lifelong friends, Paula Kendrick and Sandra "Sandy" Maes.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 21, 2024, at Crown Hill Cemetery. The schedule includes the Rosary at 1:30 pm, the Service at 2 pm, and the Graveside at 3 pm. A reception will follow at 5:30 pm at Senior Ric's 13200 E Mississippi Ave. Aurora, CO 80012.
