Shirley M. Scheck

Shirley May Scheck (Urban) born the 11th child in a blended family of 16 to Joe and Magdalena Urban in the family home in rural Ft. Lupton, Colorado on April 26, 1935. Peacefully joined our Creator on Sunday June 30, 2019 in the family home at the age of 84.

Shirley is survived by her husband Harold, Denver

Children: Cindy Malcom (Bob) Ft. Collins; Sandra Beasley, Westminster; Sara Murphree (Dennis) Centennial; Harold Dean (Debbie) Northglenn; Mike (Tory) Highlands Ranch.

Grandchildren: Mike Case (Erin), Nicole Case, Kierian Beasley, J. D. Murphree (Ashlene), Jeremy Murphree, Elizabeth Scheck, Hannah Warner (Justin), Nick Scheck (Jessie), Kayde Malcom, Matt Malcom (Donna)

Great Grandchildren: Kylee Case, Landon Case, Nolan Case, Parker Jimenez, James Murphree IV, Ryder Murphree, Levi Murphree, Elliana Murphree, Cooper Scheck, Cami Scheck, Fiona Rehn

God Child: Jerry Steckel

Siblings: Irene Hirschfeld, John Urban, Betty Mika, Helen Sanger and Francie Kaveny

She is preceded in death by her parents, 9 siblings (Joe, Annie, Katherine, Eva, Mary, Josie, Jake, Rosie, Paul and Charles) and most recently her grandson Kevin Beasley Jr. (K.J.)

Growing up in the farming community of Ovid, Colorado (population 649), Shirley spent time tending to the farm (picking beets), helping around the house with her younger siblings, singing in the school choir and staying away from the family dog “Max”

After high school Shirley got a job in Ogallala, Nebraska at Goodalls. It was a big deal because she had a job, moved out of the house, had a roommate and made her own money. She had a car and would go home sometimes on the weekends. The younger sisters at home were envious because Shirley did not have to share a bed like they had to.

When Harold first met Shirley, at Hart’s Corner, he was immediately drawn to her dancing skills. So much that when they began dating she taught him how to dance and they never missed a chance to attend a Dutch Hop where they were able to Polka and Waltz together until their legs were sore. This trait was passed on to their children who all had German weddings.

Shirley married Harold, from Loveland Colorado, on June 14, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Polish Church in Globeville, CO and were able to celebrate 61 wonderful years of marriage. She was a stay at home mom until the children were all old enough to attend school. Shirley spent a long tenure working at Nabisco then Denver Plastics. She also spent 3 years tending to one of her grandchildren before enjoying her full retirement with Harold. Probably the most rewarding job was raising her children who gave her many fond memories: school events, athletic performances, picking cherries at Warburg’s farm, frying chicken all night to prepare for Gates picnic at Lakeside amusement park with relatives, or even a visit to Santa’s workshop in Colorado Springs.

Shirley would never miss watching a Rockies game on tv because the crowds were always too much for her to actually go to the stadium, but she would cheer them on daily! Playing video poker games and working on word search puzzles became enjoyable after Shirley stopped going to Central City/Blackhawk. Her tv amusement came from watching Family Feud because she always thought Steve Harvey was “so goofy.”
