Sophie Beatrice Pfeiffer, a remarkable and spirited woman, passed away on April 16, 2026 at the age of 76. She was surrounded in her final moments by her loving daughter, Hillory Marie Crosthwaite, and devoted caregiver, Tennisia.
Sophie was born on November 8, 1949, in Richmond, California, to her parents, Ruth Belknap Bates and Frederick Charles Crosthwaite. She was raised with strong values and a determined spirit that would shape the extraordinary life she lived. Sophie attended Junípero Serra Center for Girls and later graduated from Mission San Jose High School on June 16, 1967.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marc Shane Pfeiffer (May 7, 1957 – March 23, 2018), and her cherished son, Adam Ernest Crosthwaite (December 17, 1979 – July 17, 2017). Their memories remained forever close to her heart.
Sophie is survived by her daughters, Heather Marie Butler (born November 25, 1971) and Hillory Marie Crosthwaite (born January 25, 1978); her grandchildren, Sean Russell and Zachariah Russell; and her treasured cat, Ophelia (born April 15, 2015). She also leaves behind her siblings: Carmella Orham, Elizabeth Grow, Sylvia Macklin, Fred Crosthwaite III, John Crosthwaite, Martha Thompson, and Raymond Crosthwaite.
Sophie had a distinguished and admirable career in finance and accounting, where she excelled as an executive director and leading specialist. She contributed her expertise to major telecommunications companies including Qwest, Mountain Bell, and Pacific Telephone. Her brilliance, professionalism, fierce intelligence, and dedication earned her respect and admiration throughout her 30 year career.
Beyond her professional achievements, Sophie found deep joy in giving back to her community. She was especially devoted to her volunteer work with the Colorado Renaissance special events and promotions segment as it directly connected her to the world of her imagination, as well as the amazing work that she did for the Colorado Karate Association.
Sophie was a woman of passion, strength, and individuality. She never backed down from a challenge and stood firmly for her beliefs, especially when it came to protecting and supporting her family. Though never harsh or unkind, she was articulate, confident, and unwavering.
Her first and most cherished roll was that of a mother. She loved her 3 children unconditionally with an unmatchable love. Her hard work, Catholic faith, and ability to create sunshine during the most horrendous storms will never be forgotten.
A true mystic at heart, Sophie embraced beauty, magic, and wonder in all forms. She had a love for fashion and beauty trends, often styled with red nails & flair by her beloved stylist Bernadette. She enjoyed music, especially the soft rock 80s hits, and had an appreciation for luxury and adventure—from elegant automobiles to exhilarating, yet frightening, boat rides across the ocean with her husband Shane.
She loved her home with her magical faeries all around, horror movies, dancing at the Grizzly Rose, playing the harp, traveling, and tending to her rose garden. Her home was a place of enchantment, filled with fairies, flowers, laughter, and warmth. Sophie delighted in entertaining guests from all walks of life, welcoming everyone with open arms—and often an abundance of chocolate, which she firmly believed to be one of life’s essential food groups.
Sophie was truly one of a kind—a woman full of magic, strength, and love. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those fortunate to have her in their life.
Sophie and her son Adam will be placed together in their final resting place at Olinger Crown Hill Cemetery, 7777 West 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033, on May 15, 2026, at 1:00 pm.
