

Susan Kay Burns age 69, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in Westminster, CO. surrounded by her family, early Friday morning August 23, 2019. Susan was born on February 1, 1950 in Sioux City, Iowa. She was the first of eight children to Vernon and Carol (Krommenhoek) Dew. Susan was the former wife and cherished friend of Michael R. Burns and mother to Wendy, Michael, Matthew, and Jeremy.
Susan and her family moved to Colorado in 1978 which lead to her career at Geneva Pharmaceuticals. In 1994 Susan met William Gonzales with whom she spent 18 years, they loved going dancing, traveling, and spending time together at their lake house in Nebraska. Susan retired from Geneva Pharmaceuticals and after retirement she loved traveling, and making memories with her grandchildren. She volunteered at the Women’s Shelter of Ft. Morgan, the Adams County Animal Shelter, and she loved her work as a paraprofessional for special needs children in the Adams County School District . In recent years Susan became a member of various communities involving spiritual and metaphysical enlightenment. She had a passion for animals, gardening, going to the park with her dogs, visits to the library and time spent with friends and family.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents, infant sister and brother Wendy Dew and Bruce Dew, brother Vernon Dew, Sister Colleen (Dew) Maher, former spouse and friend Michael R. Burns, and her loving companion William Gonzales.
Susan is survived by her daughter Wendy (Carlos) Hildreth, sons Matthew (Fran) Burns, Michael Burns, Jeremy (Brenda) Burns, grandchildren Taylor Hildreth, Trevor Burns, Brieanna Smith, Tiffany Burns, Michael Burns, Jason Burns, Jennifer Burns, Kaylee Burns, Ashlee Burns and Rhylee Burns. Her sisters Stephanie (Keith) Cook, Deborah (Doug) Frisk and brother Rodger Dew in addition to beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services for Susan will be held Thursday September 19th at 5pm At Crown Hill Cemetery in the Pavillion. Located at 7777 W. 29th Ave, Wheat Ridge, Co 80033.
A Celebration of life for Susan will be held at her home following the service.
Susan requested in Lieu of flowers she would like donations to be made to the Adams County Animal Shelter (720) 523-7387.
