Yoshiko Kuhrt (nee Ueda), 100, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, surrounded by family. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery on July 3, 2024, at 2:30 PM.
A native of Yokosuka, Japan, Yoshiko dreamed of attending Tokyo University, but was denied entry as women were not allowed. Undeterred, she earned a degree in chemistry in three years and was one of only two women in her graduating class at Kyoritsu Women's College of Pharmacy . She worked as a pharmacist at the Yokosuka U.S. Naval Base, where she met her future husband, John Kuhrt, a medical corpsman in the U.S. Navy, in what she described as love at first sight. They married in 1955 in Tokyo and later moved to Denver, Colorado.
Yoshiko was proud to become a naturalized U.S. citizen. She worked at Porter Memorial Hospital for 30 years as a Medical Technologist. An avid fan of the Denver Broncos and the Colorado Avalanche, Yoshiko's enthusiasm for sports was well-known.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Kuhrt; her son, John Kuhrt Jr. of Denver; Sharon’s husband Alan Fried; and her two grandchildren, Dylan and Kira, all of North Yarmouth, ME.
