George Alexander Badalutz passed away peacefully in the quiet of his home on August 22, 2021 at the age of 89. George was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Shirley; his parents, Aglaia and John Badalutz; and his siblings: John Badalutz, Jr., and Margurite Hughes. He is survived by his four children: Michael Badalutz, Janice Badalutz, Margie (Gavin) Jackson, and Kristi (Eric) Fenske; his grandchildren: Amy (Simon) Kitching, Alex Jackson, and Gabriel, Elliot, and Simon Fenske; and his great-grandchildren: Noah, Kalari, and Bodhi Kitching.
On his own, George emigrated from Romania to the United States at the age of 16. Shaped by a childhood wrought with loss and hardship, he overcame adversity. He achieved much success in a life long career as a builder and developer. He held prominent standing and respect as a businessman in his community. He also mentored many in his field along the way.
Also, at the forefront of his life, and continuous throughout, was the love he held for family; especially for his wife and children. He was a devoted husband, married to Shirley for 62 years. He was driven to succeed and abundantly generous with all the fruits of his labor. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him much joy in his later years.
George took great pride in his Romanian roots and heritage, which colored all aspects of his life. He remained connected to his homeland throughout his life. He helped support Romanian family members and returned frequently to spend time with relatives and friends.
He was a highly respected member of St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, enjoying the spiritual, cultural, and social aspects of the congregation.
Family and friends will miss him dearly, but those who knew him well will hold in their hearts pieces of George that will never die.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, August 26, 2021, at the St. George Romanian Orthodox Cathedral, 18405 W. 9 Mile Road, Southfield, 48075. George's family will receive friends at the Highland Chapel of the Elton Black & Son Funeral Home, 3295 E. Highland Road, Highland, Michigan 48356 on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm, and 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Saracusta Prayer Service taking place at 7:00 pm. George will lie in state at church on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am. Pomana, a meal honoring George, will follow the Mass in the Cathedral reception hall. Interment will take place at All Saints Cemetery in Waterford. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may consider memorial contributions to a charity of their choice.
