A Journey of Dedication and Achievement
Wiley Hamilton Montague, Jr. was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 14, 1930, to Wiley Hamilton Montague, Sr. and Bessie M. Montague. From an early age, Wiley exhibited remarkable athletic abilities, excelling in both football and baseball. His talents on the field were matched by his commitment to his education and country.
Following his service as a paratrooper in the Army, Wiley pursued higher education at the University of Georgia (UGA). To support his academic ambitions, he worked diligently, driving a bread truck route to pay for his studies. His determination and resilience were evident in his ability to balance work and education successfully. He met Betty Ann Meadors (deceased), in 1952 and married her soon after.
Upon graduating from UGA, Wiley embarked on a career with General Motors. His dedication and hard work were recognized, and he steadily climbed the ranks within the company. Wiley's expertise and leadership skills eventually led him to the position of Paint Shop superintendent, a role in which he excelled.
While working at GM, he and Betty moved to Union Lake, Michigan, where he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golf. He was a skilled golfer, shooting his age at 84. After retiring, they relocated to Georgia to be near family.
After Wiley's wife passed away, he moved back to Michigan to be near family again. He settled at Independence Village White Lake, made friends, started a poker club, and helped install an indoor putting green. Wiley was well-liked by residents and staff, spending his final days there.
Wiley Hamilton Montague, Jr.'s life exemplified perseverance and dedication. From his athletic youth to his Army service and success at General Motors, Wiley's journey was inspiring. He is survived by his sons Clift (Kimberly) Montague, Ted (Jon) Montague; granddaughters Dawn (John) Mulcahy, Christina (Aaron) Brunke; and five great-grandchildren: Karis, Isela, Mildred, Calvin, and Lucille.
