

Jim was born on the family farm July 31, 1928 in Parkston, SD, the son of Nathanial and Mathilda (Tiede) Winter, and was the youngest of their twelve children. He graduated from Parkston High School. After High School he joined the United States Navy and served his country during the Korean War. He then used the G.I. Bill and graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1958, with a business degree.
Jim worked for the Farm Credit Bank until his retirement in January 1991.
Preceding Jim in death were his parents, and 11 siblings.
Surviving family members include his nieces Patty Waters of Haysville, KS, Carol Hanley of Wichita, KS, and other nieces and nephews across the U.S.
A memorial graveside service will be held on Friday, October 8, 2021, at 11:00 AM at the Old Mission Cemetery, 21st and Hillside in Wichita, KS. Services will be conducted by his Pastor Paul Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made in Jim’s name to either the University Congregational Church, 9209 E. 29th Street N, Wichita, KS 67203 or to the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N. Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.
