

Ruby Irene (Coburn) Hovorka, retired McConnell AFB Civil Service employee, loving wife, mother and grandmother died July 25, 2019 at Wesley Medical Center, at the age of 89. Memorial service will be held Monday, July 29, 2019 at 1:00PM at the Kansas Masonic Home Chapel, 415 S. Martinson, Wichita, KS. Ruby was born to Alva and Viola Griffin (Lucas) Coburn, September 29, 1929 in Stillwater, OK where she lived until she moved to Wichita, KS with her father, sister and brother. She is survived by her husband, Leroy V. Hovorka of Caldwell, KS and his family. Her sons by her first marriage to George W. Bishop: Ronald D. Bishop (Carole) of Woodland Park, CO; Darrell R. Bishop of Wichita, KS; his son Darren R. Bishop (Sheva) & their sons, Darrek R. Bishop, & Gauge R. Bishop of Wellington, KS. Additional family members include: Doug Foster (step-son), Vail, CO, Danny (grandson) & Samantha Hutson, Step-daughters Vickie Pontius (Thomas) and Bobbie Thomas, Jimmy and Jennifer Brown (step-daughter), Wesley Hovorka (step-son) and several grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, George & Nancy Coburn of Stillwater, OK, her maternal grandparent Marion Griffin of Mehan, OK, parents Alva & Viola Coburn, her husbands, George W. Bishop, Dean Foster, and Robert Carter, sister Maxine Vickers of Oklahoma City, nephew Tommy Arndt of Oklahoma City, brother Jackie M. Coburn of Stillwater, OK, aunt Alice Sumpter, uncle Bob Sumpter, cousins Bobby Sumpter, George Sumpter, Kenneth Sumpter, Martha Trepton, Linda Wehr, and daughter-in-law Beverly Bishop. In her early years, Ruby worked at the Wichita Hospital, located at the corner of Seneca and Douglas as a nurse’s aide, retiring from Airforce Civil Service, McConnell AFB in 1978, and Boeing in Method’s Engineering, both in Wichita, KS. After retiring she worked for the Arthritis Foundation before she and her husband, Dean Foster, moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where they built a home. She later worked at the Village Nursing Home where she received her CNA license. They moved back to Wichita when Dean developed Alzheimer’s. After Dean’s death, she went to work for Senior Services as a respite care worker. Ruby later met and married Leroy Hovorka. They both loved dancing and traveling. Ruby’s hobbies were decorating, reading, sewing, gardening and painting anything from houses to walls or pictures. Ruby also enjoyed close and loving relationships with her extended families. Ruby and Leroy were active in church and had many church friends at both Central Community Church in Wichita and Central Christian Church in Caldwell, KS. Memorial are established with the Caldwell Church.
