Sonia was born on June 5, 1937 to Charles and Marthel (Hagan) Threepersons in Salt Lake City, Utah. She moved frequently during her childhood and early teen years, but eventually settled in Wichita, Kansas under the care of her beloved step-father Napoleon Benjamin Cota. She made Valley Center her home after marrying in 1954.
Sonia was known as a jack-of-all-trades. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter. Her creations are not only part of her own family’s memories, but, also, the memories of hundreds of families for whom she made custom wedding and formal gowns.
Throughout her life she enjoyed volunteering and participating in women’s service and civic organizations including the Daughters of the Nile, The Valley Center City Council, and the Kansas State Fair.
Sonia was often labeled “bossy” by those that knew and loved her. In hindsight, her “bossiness” was probably just a strong, independent nature born out of necessity from a difficult childhood as the eldest of 3 girls. Her “bossiness” and strong-will also helped her raise 3 children, including 2 children who had chronic health issues.
Sonia was predeceased by her mother Marthel Minetti, father Charles Threepersons, step-father Napoleon Benjamin Cota, son Richard Edward Farthing, sister Sondra Threepersons, and grandson Jeremy Hensley.
She is survived by her children Cheryl Hensley, Rhonda (Jim) Presley, and Ron (Pat Noullet) Farthing II; sister Verna Lynn (Ed) Brock, grandchildren Jessica (Wade) Davis, Madison (Derek) Schmidt, Katie Mosiman, and Robert Jones; and great-grandson Quentin Davis.
A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wichita Family Crisis Center 1111 N St. Francis St, Wichita, Kansas 67214 (www.wichitafamilycrisiscenter.org).
