She was raised in Wichita and attended Waco Elementary, Horace Mann Jr. High, and graduated from North High in 1951. She married Robert Gene Buttram on June 1, 1951, and they had four daughters. They later divorced in 1960.
After the divorce she attended cosmetology school and had her own beauty shop in the north Riverside area. She was also a daycare provider for a number of years. Before retiring she worked for the Salvation Army stores.
She was an avid reader, and enjoyed playing card games with her girls (and innocently trying to cheat), as well as spending time with her grandkids. She was a long-time member of Wellington Place Baptist Church, and attended First Baptist Church in her later years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include: her 4 daughters - Marilynn (Calvin) Herrill, Karen (Dan) Miller, Cathy (Tim) Martz, Cheri (Clayton) Doll; 10 grandchildren – Kristen Miller, Stephanie Doll, Kyle Herrill, Jon Miller, Lisa Martz Brown, Matt Herrill, Dustin Miller, Ben Martz, Ryan Doll, Emily Martz Foerschler; 29 great grandchildren and 11 great-great grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with Good Shepherd Hospice – Wichita.
