He was born May 6, 1936 in Waterbury and raised in Thomaston and was a son of the late Michael and Anna (Melnick) Kuibeda Sr.
Michael attended Thomaston schools before proudly serving with the United States Marines Corp. and after his service in the Marines, he was employed at Unisys (formerly known as Wheeler) until his retirement in 1990. He met his wife, Gertrude at the Wheeler and got married in 1961.
He was a strong advocate for his two deaf children, Michael III and Trudi Ann while they attended the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford.. He spent 23 years driving his children to West Hartford to attend school. He also was a chaperone for the Taft School students who volunteered at many school activities until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Waterbury Deep Sea Fishing Club and a member of the NAVA Ski Club as a ski patrol. He loved fishing and boating and had many good tales of catching fish during his life.
He enjoyed spending time with his family at Lake George, NY for 14 wonderful years. Especially fishing on the boat with his first-born son, Michael III. He also spent many summer hours outside showing his children life skills such as planting and sowing. He was a great fatherly teacher to his children and grandson until his death.
He is survived by his 3 beautiful children, Michael Kuibeda III and longtime girlfriend Patty Starr of Rochester, NY, James Lee Kuibeda Sr. of Waterbury and Trudi Ann Kuibeda and fiancé Thomas Orscher of Waterbury along with one favorite loved grandson, James Lee Kuibeda Jr. He also leaves a sister Mary Platt and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Theresa Filippone and a brother, John Kuibeda.
A Celebration of Michael’s life will be held Saturday, October 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Highpoint Baptist Church, 450 Wolcott Rd., Wolcott. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Michael’s memory to the Highpoint Baptist Church.
