Robert was born in Waterbury on April 11, 1945, born the son of the late Benjimin and Ellen (Corbett) Cowles. He was a lifelong resident of Wolcott and a 48 year member of Wolcott Volunteer Fire Dept. Company 1. Bob was employed by Bushka Lumber as a trusted driver in his younger years. He also drove a bus for Daniel Goffred's bus company in Wolcott for many years, as well as being a driver for the Cheshire bus system.
Robert was very proud of his service with the US Navy, in which he served in the Vietnam War Era, and was assigned to the USS Simon Buckner, which was a crew transport carrier.
Robert was one of a kind! His cheerful disposition could be seen throughout town at his favorite restaurants which included El Cafesito, where he met his pals Alex and Leo for breakfast, Vito's Pizza, Hitchcock Pizza, and East Street Eatery.
In his later life, he was given the gift of being able to travel. Robert was able to visit Ireland, Canada, Europe, and he was also able to go on a riverboat cruise which he so enjoyed.
Robert never missed an opportunity to make YOU smile by saying either, "Hello young lady",
"Have a Happy", or "Keep Smiling!", which were just a few of his trademark sayings.
Robert leaves behind to cherish his memory, his special friend Chuck Marsella who watched over him in his later years.
He also leaves behind his cherished brothers at the Wolcott Fire Department Co.l, as well as so many people that he met upon the way.
We will truly miss you, our very special friend.
