Born June 6, 1926 in New Britain, she was the daughter of the late Conrad and Jane (Staszczak) Mangiafico. She was the beloved wife of the late Edward Joseph Chesanek. They were married on November 4th, 1944, enjoying 58 happy years together.
She loved to care for and spend time with her family in Connecticut and New Hampshire, cook, bake, dance, sing, watch her soap opera, play cards, live, and love. She put over three generations of children to sleep with her bedtime stories. Her smile made any day feel like a special occasion. Whenever we got a cold, she was there with her homemade chicken soup to nurse us back on our feet. Whenever we needed a treat, a fresh apple pie was baked to perfection.
Irene’s legacy is the family she leaves behind including her two children Patricia Joan Forbes and Michael Chesanek. Known as “Goggy” to her seven grandchildren: Scarlett Forbes, Dr. Victoria Forbes, Rhett Forbes and wife Michele, Russell Chesanek, Sierra Stateler and husband William, Joseph Chesanek, Nicole Belliveau and son Cole and her two great-grandsons, Ashton Forbes and Gavin Forbes Pillon. Goggy is loved by so many, but as she would always say, she loved us more. Her endless love, warm and caring nature, positive and assertive attitude, and strong will touched the lives of everyone around her and will echo for generations.
Irene was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in New Britain where a Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 7th at 10 a.m. (158 Broad Street). Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, New Britain. Calling hours will be held on Irene’s 95th birthday, Sunday, June 6th from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the DellaVecchia Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Southington. For online condolences and directions please visit, www.dellavecchiasouthington.com
