On March 25th, 2021 Sylvia embarked on her next adventure and has happily reunited with her beloved husband Wilfred (March 28, 1987) - they are most likely dancing up a storm. As she always wanted, she passed peacefully at home with Cameron and Christine by her side. Sylvia is very fondly remembered for her fun and feisty personality yet also remembered for her heartfelt compassion, concern, and service to others.
Born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario in 1934 she traveled to St. Catharines at the age of 17 to attend the Mack School of Nursing and proudly graduated as a RN in 1955. She worked in several hospitals and later focused on private duty nursing. She credits her career as an RN for teaching her perseverance and duty in all the undertakings that are part of the life cycle.
In 1957, she married her love Wilfred and had two children Christine and Cameron. She was very proud of their accomplishments and that they pursued their passions in life. She will be deeply missed.
Sylvia was an avid collector and dealer of antiques and collectables and she loved to share her passion with others, helping them find the perfect treasure for their home. Most weekends you could find her visiting garage sales, attending auctions or selling at antique markets.
She and Wilfred loved to buy and renovate homes - she was especially passionate about interior decorating and gardening. She also worked briefly as a real estate agent.
Sylvia was very proud of her Finnish heritage and often shared memories of her involvement in Finnish athletics and culture as a child in Kirkland Lake.
In keeping with her wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service at Victoria Lawn Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choosing would be welcomed.
