Carol Hurley Naccari passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her children on Friday, May 21, 2021. She was born on November 3, 1933 in New Orleans to John P. Hurley, Sr. and Alice D. Hurley. She was preceded in death by Joseph N. Naccari, her beloved and devoted husband of 47 years. Their love was a special bond that was felt by everyone who knew them. They met through family friends and married on July 22, 1959 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. She was also preceded in death by her only brother, John “Pat” Hurley, Jr, a devoted uncle to her five children. She was a resident of Lake Vista and a parishioner of St. Pius X in New Orleans for over 74 years. Carol, or “Meme” as she was lovingly known by her family, was a graduate of St. Mary’s Dominican High School. She also attended Loyola University where she received a Bachelor of Science in Education. Years later, Carol earned a Master’s degree in Education from Loyola University while raising her five children. Carol Naccari was a woman of many passions including that for teaching, giving, and socializing. Her passion for teaching was the source of much joy in her life as she touched the lives of so many students in New Orleans. Carol taught over 30 years in the Orleans Parish School System, including at Schaumberg Elementary School and later at Hynes Elementary School in Lakeview. After retiring from the public school system, Carol continued her passion for education in the Catholic school system. She worked as a substitute teacher at St. Pius X Catholic School and later worked as a full time teacher at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School on Canal Street until she retired in 2008. Her generosity and calling to give, never ceased. As an active parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Carol was always willing to spend time in the Adoration Chapel. As a Prayers for Priests participant, Carol offered prayers daily to show support and appreciation for the dedication of priests. She was an active member of the NAIM Conference chapter at St. Pius X Church. Carol and Joseph were lifelong, avid members of Four Fins of Loyola University. Carol often enjoyed socializing with friends or family at nice restaurants. She will always be remembered for her famous Christmas Eve parties that welcomed family and friends with open arms. For Meme, every season was an event to celebrate with loved ones. She will be sadly missed by her five children: Brian Naccari, M.D.(Maria), Jay Naccari (Dana), Melissa Naccari Adams (Rick), Bradley Naccari (Bridget), and Todd Naccari.
