Rodney developed a great passion for reading and watching horror movies at an early age. He enjoyed science fiction and fantasy movies, books, stories, etc., also. Following his passion, he became a published horror genre author in January 2021, partnering with his spouse Chandra Renee Powell. Rodney was anticipating the release of his second novel. He aspired to be the Jackie Robinson of the horror genre, as he would say, and compared himself to Alfred Hitchcock.
He also enjoyed political activism online, forming several groups to combat racial inequality and promoting voting rights.
Rodney passed away at his home on Thursday, June 3, 2021, in Beaumont, Texas, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents Artis, Sr., and Mattie Thomas Powell.
Precious memories of Rodney are left to his wife, Chandra Renee Powell; step-sons, Kendall Miles and Jalen Miles; sisters, Mary Jo Fayoyin (Gabriel) and Jacqueline Powell; brothers, Artis Powell, Jr. (Ruth), Glenn Powell (Sissy), and Kenneth Powell (Deborah); uncle, J. Mac Brown; aunts, Winnie Brown and Bernice Walker. Rodney leaves behind a host of family and friends in both Texas and Georgia to cherish his memory.
Rodney, who was a very loving man and enjoyed his family, will be greatly missed.
Visitation was held from 1:00 P.M. - 5:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, at Comeaux Community Mortuary & Cremations in Beaumont, Texas.
A Celebration of Rodney's life will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2021, at Macon Memorial Park Funeral Home, at 11 a.m. Family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. and committal services will follow in Macon Memorial Park Cemetery.
