Born on January 22, 1930 to Siguard and Verna Casperson in Saint Paul, Gerrie was eventually joined by siblings Laurie, Tom, and Rick. She met Robert during her Harding High School years. Eventually he won her heart, and became the love of her life. They married on August 11, 1948 at 1st Lutheran Church where she was baptized, confirmed, and remained a faithful member for the rest of her life. Gerrie was a devoted mother above all else. A loving mother of 5 children: Lynn (Ron) McConnell, Laurie (Jeff) Kay, Jeff (Karen), Lisa (Bob) Treise, and Sue (Bryon) Deiss. A caring grandmother to 13 grandchildren, and 29 great grandchildren. Her family deeply grieves her loss, but is so thankful for how she touched each of our lives in so many ways.
Gerrie had many other interests and accomplishments including:
Life at the cabin on Cedar Lake, a gathering place for family and friends for over 50 years, and the same lake her parents had a cabin since she was a child. Traveling - both road trips and cruises, to many of the US states and many international locations. Being a great cook for her large family, and hosting all the special holiday meals. Bowling on a team for many years. Reading about every book in the library. Watching the Minnesota Twins, and Vikings football with Bob. Completing crossword and Sudoku puzzles in the daily newspaper. Knitting and sewing - all the kids have stockpiles of knitted dishrags. Visiting the casinos, and playing the penny slot machines. Attending First Lutheran church regularly for over 90 years. Loved music, and played the piano for many years. Frequently went to the movie theater to see all the award winning shows. Playing cards and board games, especially during "Happy Hour' before dinner. Feeding the birds, and keeping bees away from the hummingbird feeders. Making beds .... perfectly ... and keeping her home neat as a pin. Never forgetting the birthday of so many people in her life.
Gerrie recently answered the question "What do you think are the secrets to a happy relationship" with: "I think trust, honesty, patience, and understanding are important". This was her attitude, and it was apparent in all her relationships.
Visitation will begin at 10am on Monday, September 27, 2021 at First Lutheran Church, 463 Maria Ave, St. Paul followed by service at 11am. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
