Dad passed away peacefully on October 8, 2021 at the age of 94. He was born in Sydney, NS on June 15, 1927 and he was the son of the late Albert and Florence (Matheson) Colborne. Dad graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (1948) and Bachelor of Law Degree (1951). As a Lawyer, he practiced law in Sydney, NS working for the law firms MacNeil, MacNeil & Colborne and Khattar & Khattar. He was also employed with HB Nickerson and Sons Limited in North Sydney, NS and Polymer Corporation Limited in Sarnia, ON.
Dad is survived by his children Lisa (Steven) Morrison, Andrew (Melissa) Colborne, Kathy McKinster, David Myers and 6 grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Marjorie (Parsons) Colborne, brother Blair Colborne and daughter Heather (Myers) Pinkston.
Dad was a smart, content and private person. In his early years, Dad enjoyed bridge nights with friends, curling at the Sydney curling club and cross country skiing. He spent many years running the roads to watch his kid’s hockey and soccer games. Dad always enjoyed shucking a large box of oysters he would pick up at the wharf every Christmas and as kids we looked forward to this Christmas tradition. He would read the Chronicle Herald and Cape Breton Post word for word and there were not too many crossword puzzles or cyrptoquote he couldn’t finish. Most of all Dad loved spending summers at the cottage in Baddeck, relaxing with family around the bonfire.
Over the last 8 years, Dad lived at White Hills Long Term Care Centre in Hammond’s Plain, NS. Words cannot express our heartfelt appreciation for all the kindness and compassion shown to Dad during his time at White Hills. A special thank you to nurse Jaclyn MacLean and the many staff who cared for Ed. Cremation has taken place and a private Interment will take place at the Cathedral Church of All Saints Columbarium at a later date. Online condolences may be sent to www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
