Rosalind (Rose) Chandler Weeks, a longtime resident of Montgomery, passed away peacefully at her residence on February 6, 2020 at the age of 95. She was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 51 years, Cecil Weeks and her seven siblings. Rose is survived by her three children, Donna (Ron) Carlson, Paul (Theresa) Weeks and Jan (David) Mrozinski as well as five Grandchildren and five Great Grand Children who all referred to her as Nan.
Rose was born in Millport, Alabama on July 9, 1924, the fifth of eight children. She graduated early from Millport High School and made her way to Birmingham, found a job at Silvers Variety Store where she met her future husband. They married in November, 1942 and soon he was off to India where he would be stationed, while flying the “Hump” (the Himalayas) into China, for the remainder of the war. After they were reunited, Rose and Cecil raised their children in Montgomery and Florence. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. She loved the Lord and her family and her dear friends more than anything.
Rose was known for her fierce independence, developed through the Great Depression and World War II, but she cherished her time with family and friends. She liked to tease and to give a sideways look with her mischievous smile. That smile and the twinkle in her eyes will be greatly missed.
We want to thank the staff and management and friends at Wesley Gardens for their tireless efforts and the time they offered to make Rose’s twilight years as comfortable and involved as possible.
