C. Catherine “Cathie” (Hutzler) Grejdus, 85, of East Hartford, loving wife of 65 years of Henry “Hank” Grejdus, peacefully journeyed home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 after a brief illness. Born on November 27, 1935 in La Coste, TX, the daughter of the late Paul and Elleanora (Riedel) Hutzler, she grew up in Del Rio, TX. In 1954 she met the love of her life, Hank, at Laughlin Air Force Base in Del Rio, TX where she had worked as a clerk. They were married on July 23, 1955. They honeymooned on a road trip from Texas to Niagara Falls, and made their home in New Britain eventually settling in East Hartford.
A devout Catholic, Cathie was an active communicant of Our Lady of Peace Church, East Hartford. She was also a member of the East Hartford Women’s Club, East Hartford Garden Club, The Red Hat Society, a knitting social group with special friends, and a Bunco group of special friends. She always enjoyed participating in the many clubs and socializing with her special friends. Cathie enjoyed reading recipes and cooking for her family and friends. She loved to sew and she sewed many matching outfits for her three daughters during their childhood.
In addition to her beloved husband Hank, Cathie is survived by her three adored daughters, Barbara Dell and her husband Jon of Stafford Springs, Nancy Cadwallader and her husband Steve of East Hartford, Diane Snow and her husband Jimmy of Southington; six cherished grandchildren, Ryan Dell and his partner Tori Fossett, Jackie Dell, Tommy Snow and his fiancé Megan Lambert, Amanda Snow and her partner Leon Peschel, Lindsay Cadwallader and her fiancé Aaron Rodriguez, and Joshua Cadwallader. She also leaves her brother, Thomas Hutzler and his wife Kathy of Kirby, TX; her sister, Joan Kiefel of Lake Jackson, TX; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Peg Anctil.
Funeral service will be Saturday (April 24, 2021) with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 am at Our Lady of Peace Church of St. Edmund Campion Parish, 370 May Road, East Hartford. The family has requested that everyone please go directly to the church on Saturday morning and that you please wear bright colors to the funeral, honoring Catherine who loved bright colors, especially her favorite color red. Burial will follow at Silver Lane Cemetery, East Hartford. Cathie’s family will receive relatives and friends at “walk-through” calling hours on Friday (April 23, 2021) from 4 – 6 pm at the D’Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel, 30 Carter Street, East Hartford. Due to the current health pandemic, everyone is asked to please wear a face covering and adhere to all of the state, church, and funeral home regulations. Cathie’s family would like to extend their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the entire staff at the Jefferson House in Newington for their loving care of Catherine during her illness.
