Fernando Martinez Jr, age 46, passed away suddenly on Sunday, May 26, 2019 in Columbus, TX. He was born in Ventura, California to Nicolasa and Fernando Martinez Sr on August 29, 1972. He lived in Texas and graduated from Galena Park High School. He met his soul mate, Tammy, while working for Compaq in 1997 and they have shared 22 loving years together.
Fernando spent much of his career in the retail services industry before becoming a District Manager for Barri Group, a financial services company. In his spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family, exploring the open road on his motorcycle, training in Muay Thai and mixed martial arts, surfing the waves, playing guitar in a band, working on his muscle car, skate boarding and bike riding. Pursuing his passions made him happy. He was well known for his witty sense of humor, contagious smile, and heart of gold. Fernando’s compassion was like no other. He was a fair and balanced man with both intellectual and emotional intelligence. An inspiration, Fernando’s presence lit up a room. Loved and cherished by his friends and family, he was affectionately known as Junior, Fred and Nando.
Besides his wife, Tammy, Fernando is survived by his grandfather Damaso Tobias, parents Nicolasa and Fernando Martinez Sr of Houston, TX, sister Jessica Mansfield and husband William “Bill” of Dallas, TX, brother, Miguel Martinez Sr and fiance’ Belda “Belle” Torres of Houston, TX, brother-in-law James Henderson, sister-in-law Kathy McGill & husband Greg of Huntsville, TX, brother-in-law Bill Henderson and wife Stacey of Dickinson, TX, and sister-in-law Sherry Sherwood and husband Doug of Orlando, FL; his nieces, Leah Martinez, Lindsey Sadler, Magdalena Mansfield, Makenna Henderson, Michelle McGill, Morgan Mansfield and Myah Martinez; his nephews, Brady Sherwood, Dylan Sherwood, Matthew McGill, Miguel “Little Mike” Martinez Jr and Trevor Henderson and many cousins, aunts and uncles.
Fernando is preceded in death by his grandparents Manuel and Lucia Martinez, Roberta Tobias and Dorothy Riggs, parents-in-law Manley and Carolyn Henderson and brother-in-law Terry Henderson.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, May 31st beginning at 5:00 pm, followed by a Rosary Service at 7:00 pm at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home at 13102 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77060. The Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, June 1st at 10:00 am at the same location. Committal Service will follow on location at the grave site.
