Jerry, aka Mart, Boji here. For the past 365 days I have thought of you so often and knew I needed to sit down and leave a message. I do and will continue to miss you. My ATO brother, we went through activation together and somewhere I have a photo I want to post of the two of us and Nort. Thanks for being a great friend and brother. Wish we could have had that "one last visit". Until we have a heavenly meeting I'll remember our time on earth.  


Very sorry to hear of Jerry's passing. I worked with Jerry through Des Moines Truck Brokers and always enjoyed getting past work conversations to talk ISU wrestling and other events. It's no surprise to hear so many friends share stories of Jerry being humble, passionate, and giving.  Jerry was a great man and will be missed by all that knew him. Prayers for his family, friends, and collogues. 

Doggone it, I am so sorry to learn of Jerry passing. Like so many other veteran participants of the Iowa Masters, I got to know Jerry as he patrolled the fairways in charge of the tournament's volunteer corps. He was always quick to share a story, a kind word or provide encouragement when I inevitably found Veenker's many trouble spots. So glad he came out to the 2021 tourney's final day as I got to visit with him on the sixth tee. The tournament will not be the same without him. Rest in peace and condolences to the family.

I am so very saddened to hear of Jerry's passing.  He was a great guy and good golfing buddy at Veenker when I was in Ames (so many years ago now). I also appreciated his updates on cyclone basketball as well.  It was so great he was able to come down under and visit when I got married, he had a great time in NZ and everyone in my family remembers him from that trip.

I'm going to miss Jerry.  We were high school teammates in football and baseball and often played the same position and road the bench together.  There was never any competition between us, we always supported each other.  He was a nice guy and a great teammate.  My condolences to the family.



I was so sorry to hear about Jerry's passing.  I shared his love for Veenker Golf Course and the Masters.  He meant so much to the Masters ,  he took over the volunteer program and took it to a new level and vastly improved the operation of the tournament.  George Turner and I were happy to have him as a fellow Director of the tournament these last 15 years.  Jerry was such a genuine person and all of us involved with the Masters, from the Committee, the players and the volunteers he worked with will miss him very much.  His death will leave big shoes for the Committee to fill.  My sincere condolences to the family.

Jerry was a great friend and brother to those in his fraternity and in the broader community.  He was a humble man, who never really sought out the spotlight, but could be counted on to volunteer and bring people together to get the job done.  He was passionate about golf, Ames, Iowa State University, Burke Marketing, and his fraternity Alpha Tau Omega; leaving a lasting imprint on all.  You will be missed Jerry.  Rest in peace in the place that knows no pain.  Until we meet again.

I was a classmate and football teammate of Jerry throughout middle school and high school, and I enjoyed his always-upbeat outlook on life and his hearty laugh.  
He developed a strong skill as the “long snapper” for the football team and reliably and consistently executed this important team function throughout his school years.  
I’ve enjoyed reading the memories about his passion and support for our hometown Cyclones and for the Iowa Masters tournament.  Rest In Peace, Jerry, you will be missed! 


Jerry could be relied upon to hit a drive down the middle of the fairway at fraternity golf outings. Jerry wasn't outspoken, but was always the one who could be relied upon to volunteer or help in anyway. He was easygoing and had a good laugh. Jerry is the type of person you want as a Brother By Choice. Rest in peace Mart.

Cyclone Nation has lost a great ambassador.  Jerry has been an Iowa State fanatic the majority of his life.  For several decades he was a season ticket holder for men and women’s basketball, wrestling and volleyball.  Plus, he would often attend football and softball games, and gymnastic meets.

I have known Jerry since 1985 when we were both newbies at Burke Corporation in Nevada.  I always enjoyed visits with Jerry where he would give me greater insight to Cyclone sports and reminisce about Ames back in the day.  Jerry was also active in the management of the Iowa Masters and United Way.  I was always amazed how many people knew Jerry from these activities and a variety of social events.  I’ll never forget when I was hiking in the Himalayas in 2004 when I ran into a fellow Iowan, and when I told him where I was from and where I worked he immediately asked me if I knew Jerry Martinson.

It was a pressure to know Jerry.  He will be sorely missed.


We are saddened to hear of Jerry's passing. We worked with him for many years and it was always a pleasure hearing his voice on the other end of the phone. He was always upbeat & understanding & easy to talk to. Sincere condolences to all of Jerry's family, friends, & coworkers. 

I will miss talking to my friend. I was lucky to have know him.  He was a great person and friend we spoke several times a day through work for 5 years.  He will be truly missed! 

Jerry has been a great friend and coworker since I moved to Ames. He made me feel welcome in the Ames community as well as work. He introduced me to most of the people that are now my friends. He got me to join Veenker Golf Course and get season tickets ISU wrestling. We played many rounds of golf together and worked together for 24 years. I will miss my friend greatly as I am sure many people that knew him will. He loved talking about his family and was very proud of his parents, sister, brother and nephew. He was a great ambassador for the Iowa State Masters and hundreds of players from Iowa and beyond knew for his years of his work organizing the volunteers for the yearly tournament. My deepest sympathies go to his family. 

Sorry for your loss. I worked with Jerry for over 18 years. He was a great guy and a good friend. Always enjoyed talking to him about Iowa State sports and he was always interested in how my kids were. He will be missed.
