I have only fond memories of his wonderful meticulous style of teaching and his great love for his work.  I am Minn class of 81 and he was one of many to help guide me into a surgical career.   I am sure he inspired many other students over his many years of teaching to aim for excellence.  Thank you Dr Booth.  My sincere condolences to his family.  

I will remember how quiet he was until you started talking about something he was interested in and then he spoke with great passion,

I will remember his kindness to me whenever I needed a helping hand.

I will remember how I adored him as a child and following him around until he locked himself in the closet.

I spent four years with Larry as classmates in the College of Veterinary Medicine.  We had accomplished the first part of our dream; to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, by being accepted to the Class of 1973.  To accomplish the next goal required hours of class room, laboratories and much study time to reach graduation day, so we could add D.V.M. after our name.  Larry’s love for our profession and the animals he cared for gave him great satisfaction as he served clients, their animals and his students.     

Dr. Booth was my surgery professor, and it was obvious he was incredibly passionate about teaching us. He was instrumental during the major shift in our junior surgery department, which rocked the entire student body. He also implemented the Veterinary Basics "course" online as a resource for students of any year.

I am not an easy student to have; I come in with passion coming out my ears, and I learn best when I understand "why." I regularly approached Dr. Booth to talk things out and help me find new resources, and he took all of it in stride.  I think a level of respect grew in my not taking anything at face value and him meeting me there.

One of my favorite memories was when he taught us that we must wrap a horse's leg in a particular way, not because it makes any lick of difference, but because you have to make it look like you know what you're doing, and everyone in the horse community *thinks* it makes a difference. Similarly, Dr. Booth had IT attach a GoPro to his chest for surgery knot training one day. It was incredibly obvious Dr. Booth had zero clue about this fancy new gadget, but he was excited for the ability to show us all, in real time, step be ever slow step how to tie each surgery knot. He would move out of frame to answer questions and such, and we would end up looking at his shoes on the screens -it was such a funny great memory. We all learned, too!

The moment that will always stick with me the most was when we were being taught a modern means of restraining cats for examination in our surgery course by another professor. It was a huge paradigm shift for the older generations, where we commonly scruffed a cat 'and got the job done fast.' Dr. Booth reflected aloud how 'times are changing, but it is good.' You could tell he still did not fully understand it, but he was open to change, welcomed new ideas, and made an active effort to understand. That day, I gained an entirely new appreciation for Dr. Booth, who shared my passion for learning.

Dr. Booth was one of my most  influential instructors/ people in my last two years of veterinary school.   At that time, he was a professor in the equine medical / surgical department.  I learned more about equine lameness from him than anyone else, and his dedication to perfectionism in his teaching rubbed off on his students.  He would patiently spend the time needed with a student who was willing and eager to learn.  I am so sorry to hear of his passing;  he will never, ever be forgotten. 

Always  kind and compassionate. A great teacher and mentor.

Dr. Booth was my teacher at Iowa state college of vet medicine. He was an amazing teacher. He made me the veterinarian I am today. My skills in veterinary medicine and surgery I owe a lot to him.  He is the true gentle doctor. He always got a kick out of my New York queens accent and my lively personality ansd enthusiasm. I will never forget my teacher 

Dr. Booth hired me for my first position at Iowa State University. And having him as a mentor has shaped who I am today. I can still hear his voice saying "I'd like to offer you that job ...".  I will forever be in debt to Dr. Booth for the lessons and support that he provided me over the years. 

He always spoke proudly of his family and with a smile. And his love for teaching and helping animals showed with everything he did at ISU VetMed. I remember that we worked on a project together to help students practice tying surgical knots by building his idea of using a flat piece of plexiglass with various sizes of surgical string and labels. He did not ever give up on finding better ways to demonstrate surgery techniques to his students and he was always a fan of learning the latest in technology. My deepest condolences go out to Dr. Booth's wonderful family. God bless you, Dr. Booth and all that surround you. 

Dr. Booth was an amazing professor. It is amazing that he gave up his career as a surgeon to teach students. He did a great job explaining things to students, and showing them how to perform surgical techniques in a way that made sense. He gave students one on one attention if they asked. I am left handed, and it can be difficult to learn surgical techniques in a right-handed world. He spent a lot of time trying to help me learn how to do a pedicle tie for a cat neuter. I really struggled with it at first because it was hard to translate it into left-handed positioning. And now I can do a cat neuter in under 10 minutes. W

I was part of the last class that Dr. Booth taught this spring at Iowa State CVM. Today, when a group from our class entered the junior surgery room, I felt like I could still hear him talking about what sutures to use and I kept looking over my shoulder, waiting for him to correct me on my technique. His loss was deeply felt by the Class of 2020, who had only just gotten to know him this past school year. We would love to thank him for all the time and effort he put into making us better doctors and surgeons.

For so many years I had the privelege of working with Dr. Booth. He taught me, and others, so much and enjoyed that part of his life dearly! He, also, had a love of surgical equipment. He often would ask for a piece of equipment and I would have no idea what he was asking for. Later, my co-worker Jim would let me know that he was remembering a piece from his previous place of employment. Then we knew he would come tonus with the source for that piece of equipment and we would have to order it.
Dr. Booth, also had a huge soft spot. A soft spot for any young animal. He would melt around puppies, foals and even kittens talking softly in baby talk and snuggling with them.
Dr. Booth was a wonderful man and will be missed dearly by me and all who knew him!

I will miss this wonderful colleague.  He truly cared about the students in so many ways.  Heaven has gained an angel whose influence and caring spirit lives on in all the students he taught and colleagues he encountered.  

Prayers are with your family.  May they thrive in the love and joy you gave and find peace in the wonderful memories they have made with you.

Dr. Booth is survived by his wife, Marilyn, his three children Matthew, Adria, and Zachary Booth; three granddaughters, Kaitlyn, Jacqueline, and Rebecca Tyler, his beloved dog Ozzy, and many family and friends.

Dr. Booth is preceded in death by his infant daughter, Angela Lynn as well as both of his parents, Lawrence “Larry” Sr., and Olive Peterson Booth.
