Lyn (Oppenheim) Foshe was born on July 4, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa. Sadly, her life ended on November 5, 2022, at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames after several weeks of complications beginning with Covid pneumonia.
Lyn spent her early years in Des Moines with her parents Astrid (Betty) and Norris Oppenheim. She had an older brother Ronald Oppenheim.
After she graduated from high school she met and married Larry Firnhaber in 1963. Larry was enlisted in the U.S. Navy. They had two children together, Scott and Julie. After traveling with the U.S. Navy for several years they settled in Ames, Iowa in 1970. They divorced in 1979. After 20 years of dating, Lyn married Earnie Foshe.
Lyn and Earnie shared the love of several special dogs over the years, Mollie the Collie, Weaver the Retriever, and Roxy the Retriever.
Lyn was employed by ISU as the head key coordinator, better known as "The Key Lady" for Facilities Planning & Management from 1976 until her retirement in 2008. After retirement Lyn enjoyed monthly lunches, weekly card games with friends, taking drives to nowhere and spending time with her beloved family, and of course, rooting on her mighty Cyclones. From her Cye-bird earrings to her perfectly manicured cardinal and gold nails, win or lose; she was a fan through and through. Lyn loved everything that sparkled and shined, as this was her personality. She cherished her family especially her grandchildren Kyle, Wyatt, Aubrey, and Gracey.
Lyn had a 50-plus-year friendship with a group of women affectionately known to their children as The Ya Ya's. Doreen Nervig (died Jan 2021), Mary Wheelock, Connie Hardin, and Lyn had many adventures over the years and enriched the lives of many along the way.
Those preceding her in death are her parents Astrid (Betty) and Norris Oppenheim and her brother Ronald Oppenheim.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Earnie, her children Scott Firnhaber and Julie (Curt) Dowdy, her grandchildren Aubrey Firnhaber, Gracey Harris, Kyle Porter, and Wyatt Dowdy, Earnie's sister Connie Beard and sons Rob and Nick, and the far too many friends to mention that she collected throughout her life.
As she requested, she was cremated. A celebration of Lyn's life will be held on November 19th, 2022 at The Moose Lodge 644 West 190th St Ames, Iowa, beginning at 1:00pm.
Cards of condolence may be sent to Lyn's family at 1707 1st St Boone, Iowa 50036
